If there is ever a good reason to move on from somewhere you love, it is the prospect of a new country, a new stamp in the passport. Excited to be moving into Malaysia, I caught a speedboat to Langkawi, a duty-free island off of the North-West coast of the country. It’s true that new countries will always bring new adventures, and new lessons. And if I learned anything in Langkawi it was this: when renting a car in Malaysia, be sure to make sure there are no monkeys around.

Climbing into a taxi on my first full day on the island, I couldn’t help noticing it had an air of death-trap about it.
